Vision and Mission Statements

Vision Statement

The FRIENDS of the Desert National Wildlife Refuge Complex are private citizens who believe passionately in the mission and values of the US Fish and Wildlife Service and the Desert National Wildlife Refuge Complex that we have formed the FRIENDS organization with a three year VISION to:


* ESTABLISH THE FRIENDS as THE private partner organization for the Complex


* DEVELOP AND IMPLEMENT volunteer training programs, public interpretation, and education projects tailored to the needs of Refuge


* PROVIDE FRIENDLY AND KNOWLEDGEABLE VISITOR HOSTS at all Refuges to support FWS staff and refuge resident hosts


* DO PHYSICAL ON-THE-GROUND STEWARDSHIP habitat maintenance and restoration on all Refuges (including site visits and reports, structure repairs, and other)


* ADVOCATE for Refuge Complex support (financial, volunteer, and other) within local communities, user groups, and at all levels of government

Mission Statement

Our group supports the mission of the Desert National Wildlife Refuge Complex through advocacy, stewardship and outreach.


The mission of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is working with others to administer a national network of lands and waters for the conservation, management, and where appropriate, restoration of the fish, wildlife, and plant resources and their habitats within the United States for the benefit of present and future generations of Americans.
